The best part about dog-sitting: trying unsuccessfully to prevent the puppy from doing something, then getting the "okay, maybe that wasn't the best idea" look from the puppy. He'll learn eventually...

A conversation about pesach goys (including why sarcasm doesn't work over AIM) - Tony is only beginning to learn to speak Jew...
Me (7:10:15 PM): would you be my pesach goy? Me (7:11:07 PM): it doesn't take much Tony (7:11:49 PM): whats pesach? Me (7:11:54 PM): passover Tony (7:12:13 PM): you need a passover non jew? Me (7:12:17 PM): yeah Me (7:12:19 PM): here's the thing Me (7:12:42 PM): I'm supposed to rid the house of any and all trace of kometz(leavened food) Me (7:12:52 PM): but... that's wasteful Me (7:13:14 PM): so if you could "buy" my kometz for the week, and then I'll "buy" it back at the end of the holiday Tony (7:13:33 PM): ???? Me (7:13:53 PM): give me a dollar on the 8th and I'll give it back after pesach is over Tony (7:14:31 PM): so do you need to move it here? Me (7:14:35 PM): no Me (7:14:52 PM): it's kinda like how you keep beer in my fridge Tony (7:15:25 PM): i feel used Me (7:15:31 PM): okay, I can ask someone else Me (7:15:40 PM): no worries Tony (7:16:00 PM): ill give you a dollar Me (7:16:13 PM): I don't want to make you feel used Tony (7:16:56 PM): i was being facesious Me (7:17:04 PM): ah Me (7:17:04 PM): hehe Me (7:17:07 PM): thanks Tony (7:18:15 PM): but having a person in order to "satisfy" the requirement is sorta silly to me LOL Me (7:18:28 PM): yeah... but sooooooooooooo much easier Tony (7:23:05 PM): yeah, still funny to me Me (7:23:13 PM): :::shrugs::: Me (7:23:16 PM): tis how I do things Tony (7:24:02 PM): fair enough

I decided to stay with a friend for break b/c I wasn't about to go home and deal with my mother and the fact that my father won't, hoping that I would get more work done here than either at my apartment or home. He's working to pick up some cash, so I'm at home with the dog all day. I have gotten work done, but not today yet... b/c I had a sucky morning.
I got out of the shower and had probably the worst episode I've had since getting the damn monitor, but since I had just gotten out of the shower, I wasn't wearing it. I tried to dry off and get it put back on as quick as I could so I could try and record SOMETHING. Lucky for me, I was out of commission for a good half-hour half-passed out on the bed, pressing my symptom button every couple minutes. I asked my friend to put the dog in the kennel when he left and I would let him out when I was vertical.
I let the dog out of his kennel, but still wasn't feeling fantastic, so I laid down on the couch, expecting the dog to fall asleep on me like he did yesterday. He was kinda fidgety, and I figured I was conscious enough to hear where he was in case he got in trouble. Eventually, he came back and fell asleep on my hip, so I put my arm around him and dozed a bit. Then I smelled it. I looked at him and was like "Leo, did you poop?" He just kinda looked at me and fell back asleep. I repeated my question. He fell asleep again. I pushed him off me, dragged myself off the couch and saw a good five pounds of dog poop scattered about the front room. The best part: he had already gone out to poop about two hours previous. Joy.....

This song from one of the shows at CRCAP has been running through my head recently... essentially the chorus b/c I can't remember all the words to the verses (I shall have to look it up next time I'm home b/c it's bothering me...) Chorus posted below:
I'm happy where I am No anchors to weigh me down Just drifting aimlessly into the sea So give me one small thing A place to call my own I may seem out of touch to you But I am home
Ah, memories.... Pam - you gonna set up a reunion at some point? O:-) hehe j/k... I know we're all mondo scattered now.

While I don't want the Rose to close, I can kinda understand why. I'm really concerned about the streamlining of the academics, though. They tried to do it while I was there, and there was total uproar, but now they're even lower on funds, and it seems more necessary. Hopefully the quality of the education won't go down. After all, your degree is only as good as when you need to use it.

from http://shine.yahoo.com/astrology/chinese/ox/yearly-overview/;_ylt=AuVBboVF0OzJO7Vp3yI1XcxebqU5
Ox Overview
The Ox can do well this year through steady progress. There may be a number of experiences that will provide great joy for the Ox. One area, in particular, is the Ox's personal life. You may see an addition to the family. You will be surrounded by those who care. Look for the early summer months to attend many social occasions, providing many new faces in your social circle. One area of focus is to be open to the advice of others, as you tend to keep your issues to yourself. Overall, your own year can be one that you will look back on with pride and a genuine sense of achievement.
Ox Rating
52% (3 favorable 5 neutral and 4 unfavorable months)
Ox Career
In 2009, the Oxen will be given many opportunities to further your plans and goals, as well as consolidate your position. Steady progress is the position where the Ox is most comfortable and that is where you will find yourself this year. You will also have a chance to impress and gain support from those around you. This is a good year to enhance your skills and add to your repertoire with added training or study. You will be satisfied in knowing that anything you do this year will repay you in this year and the years to come. The months of May, late August and September may mark a change in your career.
[this bodes really well for JAGC, as if I get my rec, I'd be taking the PRT and physical in May, late August I would be finishing up my internship, and September the decision as to whether I get commissioned would be being made.]
Ox Relationships
2009 will be a year of personal happiness. For the single Ox, there may be a chance to engage in new and meaningful friendships, romance, and possibly even marriage. Others will take comfort in their domestic and social lives. Being an Ox year, this is one that will provide enjoyment for you as long as you allow it. Beware of your strong will and do not allow any minor disagreements to escalate and put a damper on a fine year. May is a month that will highly favor a chance meeting or a heightened level in a relationship.
[hmm... happy birthday to me! ;)]
Ox Health
Health matters don't seem to be too much of a concern for the Ox this year, as you are good at implementing some sort of physical activity into your routine. The Ox's discipline does well to carry over into your health. It never hurts to find ways to improve in this area, so don't discount anything that will improve the quality of your life. Even though there may not be any large issues, stress can be a surmounting factor to be aware.
[attempting the whole physical activity thing. I'm back up to running a full half hour at a time! Now to just increase speed...]
Ox Wealth
The Ox could enjoy an improvement financially, but you may face a number of large expenses over the year. To maneuver your budget through the year of the Ox, exercise care and sensible spending. It would be wise to seek professional advice when it comes to any speculative ventures or risky investments that create some sense of doubt. |

So, the search for this was prompted by a performance from Shrek the Musical on the Today Show, where he sang "Hero's Ending." Then while I was doing laundry, I started humming what I thought was "Happy Ending" but I couldn't place more than the one line, then I figured it out. Yay Jim's Big Ego!!! It's actually called "Prince Charming" and it just makes me really happy.
I think you better cut all that hair off throw it out the window climb down from that tower flip the wicked witch the finger ain't no use to wait for him to get you he's out chasing his own demons not like you can really blame him you've got demons of your own
and I hate to be the one to tell you cause it don't seem so romantic but that's the way it really goes and now you know
you're gonna have to be your own prince charming gonna have to ride your own stallion gonna have to find your own castle gonna have to raise your own sail and there's gonna be a happy ending but that's only the beginning this ain't no fairy tale it's true it's real it's you
Cinderella stepped out of her glass slippers threw down that new apron put on a pair of old Doc Martens and stomped right out the door the prince was still chewing on his bacon as he hit the open road said life is full enough of disappointment to go kissing any toad
and somewhere a band was playing "to-ra-loo-ra-loo-ra" you go out and see the world girl have yourself a ball
you're gonna have to be your own prince charming gonna have to ride your own stallion gonna have to find your own castle gonna have to raise your own sail and there's gonna be a happy ending but that's only the beginning this ain't no fairy tale
you're gonna have to be your own prince charming gonna have to ride your own stallion gonna have to find your own castle gonna have to raise your own sword and there's gonna be a happy ending and there's gonna be a happy ending and there's gonna be a happy ending it's true it's real it's you |

So apparently there's this "new" discovery of what researchers are calling "third-hand smoke" i.e. the toxins that linger in the air an in clothing and upholstery and carpets after someone smokes in a room. I ask: this is new? Polls show that the majority of smokers don't believe third-hand smoke exists, and only a slim majority of non-smokers do. Why not ask anyone who is allergic to the crap? We've know this shit exists since we figured out we're allergic. We never had a name for it, but we're more than aware that it exists.

Dear Self,
I know how important it is to see your sisters, as that hardly ever happens these days, but is it really worth driving in less-than-ideal conditions, having to shovel your car out two days later, and dealing with your mother for an extra three (who happens to be uber-pissed because of the snow and how Dad doesn't know how to shovel properly)? Just food for thought.

Snow is pretty and all, but it kinda sucks when it prevents you from, oh, leaving the house. I can't go to the gym b/c my car is covered and the roads are sucky. I can't go for a run b/c the sidewalks probably aren't plowed just like the roads aren't, and even with underarmour, 35 is about my limit... without wind and snow falling on me. :::grumbles:::
Hopefully I'll be doing a lot of visiting over the next week. If you're in the area, and have some free time, let me know and we can totally arrange something! ;)

I severely dislike finals. Yes, there's the stress and the cramming and the braindumping (only to remember that I'm going to need this in a year and a half when I actually take the bar so I can't COMPLETELY braindump...), but there are other reasons I hate finals: cabin fever.
I feel like during finals I and everyone else are holed up in their apts or the library or some other non-social place (though some would beg to differ on the library), with our faces shoved in books, or sitting nose-to-nose with the bar/bri review lecture people who live on the interwebs. Granted, I admit I'm not a terribly social person when it comes to having shit to do during the semester, either, but at least at that point I'm forced out of my apartment to go to class. And, let's face it, as much as I want to get work done between classes, really that's when all my socializing happens, and it's fantastic. It keeps my head on straight. Not so available during finals.
During finals, I'm stuck here. I have no real excuse to go outside. I think I've actually left my apartment three times since my exam on Tuesday: once to go to the gym (which I had to do alone b/c of the fucking ice storm so I couldn't drive up to Schenectady - the roads in Albany were fine, so I went to the one here, but Tony was saying that the closer he got to his house the worse the roads were), once to go to my cranial-sacral massage appointment, and once for the evidence review.... during which I wanted to either shoot myself, Sebastian (the TA), or the transfer who kept asking stupid questions. That was three hours of my life that I would say were completely wasted, except for the fact that it made me realize I actually do know some of this crap.
So now, here I am, holed up in my apt. I've given up on outlining b/c I didn't start in October b/c we didn't have October break, and I got through September in my notes and my brain went on strike. Instead, I'm listening to the Bar/Bri review lecture (G-d I wish I had this guy all semester!), and possibly reading through the rest of the notes I took over the course of the semester... which only make so much sense b/c my prof SUUUUUUUUCKED.
Oh, and also, several people have lost power due to the ice storm and are therefore not online... so less socializing while working. joy...
Anyways... back to it

From a notification on facebook (yeah, I know... but still!)
Albany Law School was ranked 18th nationally in a list of the top 75 schools for public interest law, as well as among the top schools for international law and labor and employment law, in the fall 2008 issue of preLaw magazine.
A key component of Albany Law's ranking is its award-winning Clinic & Justice Center, which operates as an in-house public interest law firm providing free legal services to eligible clients. Each year, the clinic recruits more than 250 students for clinic projects, represents more than 600 clients, assists more than 1,500 individuals and organizations, and offers more than 40 community education programs.
“Being ranked alongside the nation’s most prestigious law schools is truly a testament to the commitment of our faculty and students in the field of public interest law,” said Connie Mayer, Albany Law School’s acting dean.
preLaw magazine also included Albany Law School among the nation’s top 14 institutions for labor and employment law and the top 47 for international law. The publication is distributed to 60,000 students, professors and administrators at more than 300 colleges and universities. |

Sooooooooo excited Obama won! 349 electoral votes by the end of it! Dems have control in the senate and majority in the house. Clearly, the country is ready for a change, and I hope we'll be able to do it.
( Political rant on socialism as a dirty word )
I wonder what's going to happen in con law today... We're doing Brown v. Board and related cases, and watched the integration segment from Eyes on the Prize yesterday. Clark can't not talk about it... but I wonder if he's going to concentrate on it, or go "woohoo" and move on. |

In an interview on the NBC nightly news, McCain said that Lieberman switched parties because he believes we will be safer with McCain as president. Noooooooo.... Lieberman left the Democratic party b/c he was pissed that he lost the primary for his senate seat to someone who actually acted like a democrat in order to run for the seat as an independent. To my knowledge, he didn't actually join the republican party.

So... apparently in Medieval Europe, clergy were often involved in rape cases as perps. Such a crime was a crime against the church and was punishable by excommunication. The clergy could, however, take refuge in the church via sanctuary (which was how outlaws could get reintegrated into society). So, either that, or most were acquitted. Nice to know nothing has changed in 750 years...
For those who are curious: I'm researching how a rape victim's prior prostitution conviction affects her rapist's prosecution. My professor suggested I look into Medieval outlawry to find the basis for why it seems that prostitutes are less protected by rape laws than normal citizens.
